Creation Song

This painting is one of the first I am doing in conjunction with a musical project. I am in the process of recording and arranging some original compositions in a CD project (more on that later).

The essence of the song is to celebrate the marvelous force of creation on the Earth. The image and the song grew together from different points in time but are a good fit for each other. The mountain portrayed is Sierra Blanca, my close friend and mentor who I am blessed to greet daily.

The cottonwood is also an old acquaintance and, in its isolation, gives a clue to a natural spring that emanates close by.

The illumination from the setting sun lit up everything in a rosy red light on this remarkable summer evening. The red tail hawk stayed to pose even though I was closer than most large birds tolerate.
