Guardian of the Gorge
18 x 24 On one of my many trips into the Gorge of the Rio, I spyed a remarkable petroglyph on a flat rock overlooking the river. The glyph is right across the canyon from where Taos Creek flows into the Rio Grande and has a diameter of nearly 4 feet. Alas, the location of the rock art did not afford the view that I thought would compliment both the glyph and the river. So I moved the petroglyph to a very scenic bend in the river to capture what I feel is the essense of both features together in their mutual environment. I always find it challenging to depict a river full of sediment like this with its transparent chocolate texture and luminous reflections.
