I used to travel south into southern New Mexico several times a year and always looked forward to seeing the large and healthy cottonwoods along I-25 past Belen. These trees are great specimens and dependent on the irrigation water from the Rio Grande.

I finally stopped one day when the sun was just right and the trees were just starting to put on their fall colors. I took several photos and when I worked up the piece I decided to incorporate an irrigated field into the composition.
