The Pedernal View

Anyone traveling south from the San Luis Valley into northern New Mexico is treated to this singular breathtaking view as you drop into the Ojo Caliente Valley.

I painted this on a blustery spring day as storms blew through, dowsing me occasionally with corn snow. The large flat-topped peak in the distance is known as the Pedernal.

The peak has been popularized by Georgia O'Keefe, who painted its distinctive profile often.
