At Giverny
18 x 24 After many years I returned to my photos and drawings that I gathered when I went to France and visited the gardens of Claude Monet at Giverny. In working up this piece it was clear that my technique has changed since my first paintings of the water gardens. For one thing I am much more aware of the painting surface. Now, I really pay attention to the interplay of the underpaint and the colors laid down over it. Focused cognizance of the mass and texture of the paint quality is also important to me now. What has not changed is my admiration for the truly unique visual monument that Monet created and has since been maintained by the people of France.
