Cottonwood Marsh
12 x 9 If you ever find yourself thirsty in the west, just scan the horizon for the distinct silouette of a cottonwood grove. These trees are the clear marker of surface water- or water just below the ground. This marsh is not far from the Rio Grande in southern Colorado. Painted on a late spring morning, the dried stalks of last year's cattails await the green shoots that will soon rise from the reflections.
