Honfleur Across the Inlet

Honfleur Across the Inlet by David Montgomery

28 x 18

Honfleur is a town on the Seine River as it enters the English Channel. This coastal fishing village became a resort for Parisians wishing to escape the summer heat of the city. It is also now an international tourist destination for travelers wishing to take in this quaint medieval wharf.

I was immediately drawn to a marvelous building at the entrance to the wharf. This fine structure had been added and subtracted to repeatedly for hundreds of years. The end result is building with a quirky ambience, a magical flavoring that Disney aspired to or even copied.

I was entranced to paint this building but was put off by all the crowds around the wharf. I looked around and spyed a great spot across the stone-lined inlet and set up over there well away from the crowds.
