I seldom feature wildlife in my art and when I do it is the way I experience interactions in the wild. Animals are seen in the distance and only for a moment. The deer in this painting felt fairly secure by my presence because they are not hunted in the Great Sand Dunes National Park. This is how we experienced each other the morning after a winter storm.
There were many more does in this buck’s harem but I eliminated many of them to help the composition.
The mountain in the background is called Ptarmigan Peak.
