The River Rocks

18 x 24
This is an ambitious size for a plein air painting. I spent a whole day painting the snow, trees and rocks across the river. Then, life got in the way and I did not return to this painting for several months.
When I returned to the painting some of the conditions had changed but in the mountains snow is almost a sure bet six months apart. I enjoy the challenge of rendering water that this piece brought.
I noticed some interesting effects as I did this painting. The water was moving rapidly from left to right and when I would return my gaze to my easel sometimes it seemed my painting would start moving from right to left. Motion sickness- an occupational hazard.
