Spring Veil

Spring of the Veil by David Montgomery

24 x 18

Cynthia came across a marvelous walking trail near Conga (Cong) while I was painting a scene at the local abbey. She was gone for hours. Time seemed to do funny things in Ireland- we often mused that we would be found asleep in our rented car on some side road after being reported missing for several weeks.

Anyway, as soon as she returned she escorted me on the magical trail. At every turn she would watch me as I discovered treasures she had already found. She watched in anticipation as I stopped dead in my tracks when we came across this spring that I have rendered in this painting.

I entered a zone of calming silence and drank in the scene. The spring emanated silently out of the ground and formed a pool. As I tried to grok the place and was bathed in its presence I could hear other hikers approaching with casual banter. During our stay at the spring every person who came by on the trail fell into silence- struck dumb as it were. I tried to convey a sense of this place in this painting.
